2014ifmcaInternational Film Music Critics nominate John Paesano for “Breakthrough Composer Of The Year”  and “Best Original Score for an Action/Adventure/Thriller Film” for his work in “The Maze Runner”

(IFMCA) is an association of online, print and radio journalists who specialize in writing about original film and television music.  The IFMCA was originally formed in the late 1990s as the now-defunct “Film Music Critics Jury” by editor and journalist Mikael Carlsson, a member of the editorial staff at Music from the Movies for over ten years and a regular contributor to filmmusicradio.com and filmmusicmag.com. He is also the owner of the Swedish independent film music label MovieScore Media.  Since its inception, the IFMCA has grown to comprise over 50 members from countries as diverse as Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

John Paesano to Return for ‘The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials’John Paesano has officially signed on to score the upcoming sequel The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. Wes Ball returns to direct the second part in the series, which stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee and Patricia Clarkson who reprise their roles from the first part. They are joined by new cast members members Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, Nathalie Emmanuel, Rosa Salazar, Jacob Lofland, Barry Pepper and Lili Taylor. T.S. Nowlin has written the sequel’s script based on the novel by James Dashner. Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group are back to produce the project. Paesano previously scored this year’s first installment in the series, which just crossed the $100 Mio. mark at the domestic box office. The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials is set to be released on September 18, 2015 by 20th Century Fox.

Transported to a remote fortified outpost, Thomas and his fellow teenage Gladers find themselves in trouble after uncovering a diabolical plot from the mysterious and powerful organization WCKD. With help from a new ally, the Gladers stage a daring escape into the Scorch, a desolate landscape filled with dangerous obstacles and crawling with the virus-infected Cranks. The Gladers only hope may be to find the Right Hand, a group of resistance fighters who can help them battle WCKD.

My_All_American-posterJohn Paesano has been tapped to score the upcoming sports drama My All American. The film marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Angelo Pizzo (Rudy, Hoosiers, The Game of Their Lives) and stars Aaron Eckhart, Finn Wittrock, Robin Tunney and Sarah Bolger. The movie tells the true story of 1960s University of Texas football star Freddie Steinmark and his relationship with legendary Texas coach Darrell Royal. Steinmark was a player on the national-title-winning 1969 team, before his career was cut short when he went to the hospital for a bone bruise and learned that he had a cancerous tumor that took his leg. Pizzo has also written the screenplay. Paul Schiff (Rushmore, My Cousin Vinny, Mona Lisa Smile) is producing the project. My All American is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2015.

Paesano who previously scored this year’s hit feature The Maze Runner and the sports drama Where the Game Stands Tall also has Marvel Studios’ Netflix series Daredevil coming up. The composer will also return to score the third season of DreamWorks Animation’s show Dragons: Riders of Berk, which is set to premiere in 2015.

John PaDaredevil-Character-Poster-Matt-Murdockesano has been hired to score Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series Daredevil. The show based on the Marvel Comics character and stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson and Scott Glenn. The series follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Cloverfield) and Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel) are executive producing the Marvel Television and ABC Studios with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Smallville). Daredevil is set to premiere in May 2015 on Netflix.

Paesano has previously scored the film adaptation of The Maze Runner, which is currently playing in theaters. A sequel has recently been greenlit for a release next fall. is composing the music for the upcoming sports drama When the Game Stands Tall. The film is directed by Thomas Carter and stars Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern, Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig. The movie follows the high school team of De La Salle and its young coach Bob Ladouceur who turned the perennial loser into a legend by launching a streak of 138 straight victories. Scott Marshall Smith (The Score, Men of Honor) has written the screenplay based on the book of the same title by Neil Hayes. David Zelon (Soul Surfer, Into the Blue) is producing the Mandalay Pictures production. Carter has previously collaborated with such composers as James Horner (Swing Kids), Mark Isham (Save the Last Dance) and Trevor Rabin (Coach Carter). When the Game Stands Tall is currently in post-production and is set to be released on August 22, 2014 by TriStar Pictures. The movie is based on the bestselling young adult novel by James Dashner and is set in a post-apocalyptic era where a group of teenage boys trapped in an enormous maze seek their freedom. The film is directed by Wes Ball and stars Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Patricia Clarkson, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Jacob Lattimore, Ki Hong Lee, Blake Cooper and Aml Ameen. Noah Oppenheim wrote the screenplay for the Temple Hill Entertainment and the Gotham Group production. The movie marks Paesano’s first major studio feature film project. The Maze Runner is set to be released on February 14, 2014 by 20th Century Fox.

Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), a teenager, arrives in a glade at the center of a giant labyrinth. Like the other youths dumped there before him, he has no memory of his previous life. Thomas quickly becomes part of the group and soon after demonstrates a unique perspective that scores him a promotion to Runner status — those who patrol the always-changing maze to find an escape route. Together with Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), the only female, Thomas tries to convince his cohorts that he knows a way out.

Dragons-Riders-of-Berk-Poster-how-to-train-your-dragon-37086518-2475-3225John Paesano has been tapped to score Dreamworks Animation’s upcoming TV series Dragons based on the 2010 hit animated feature How to Train Your Dragon. The show follows the adventures of Hiccup, Toothless, and a community of Viking warriors, as they discover the world of dragons is a lot larger than they thought. It has been reported that the voice cast of the feature film, including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and T. J. Miller will be returning for the TV version. Composer John Powell has received an Academy Award nomination for his score for the original film. Dragons marks the Dreamworks Animation’s first project for Cartoon Network. The show is set to premiere this fall.

Paesano has previously written the music for last year’s animated TV special Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas, which he recorded with the Hollywood Studio Symphony. His other credits in animation include the 2010 superhero film Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. On the live action side, the composer is attached to score the Irish drama Crossmaglen. The film is based on the novel Shamrock Boy by English author, Stuart White, which centers around a fictitious IRA member Dermot McGarvey who sets out with two fellow soldiers to run a raid on British troops in a small village in the north of Ireland. Ben Kingsley is attached to star in the film, which is expected to go into production soon.
